My Educational Background
My name is Jessica Cutler. One of my beliefs as teacher is that it is important to be yourself and strive to find the good in all things; I believe my online portfolio should be no exception. More about me on a personal level include hobbies and some of my passions. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I have a very large family and am close with all of my siblings, parents and many of my extended family as well. I am originally from West Michigan where I grew up and attended Rockford Public Schools in Rockford, Michigan. In high school I found an interest in art and architecture but always I knew I wanted to make a positive impact on others.
I began coaching for my age group swim team as I began my college career at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, OH. I coached in the summers and continued to do so as I transferred to Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI for my sophomore year. I began taking interior design courses, but started to find myself uninterested and missing something for my academic future. I knew I enjoyed working with children and knew I wanted to make more of an impact with them. I soon found my passion in Education. I have been fortunate enough to have had the chance to enroll in education courses for the second semester of my sophomore year and was able to chase my dream of becoming an educator.

My Personal Interests
I grew up swimming and continued this passion into college where I competed for Michigan State and received four varsity letters. I also enjoy painting and time outside. I have always enjoyed going to Lake Michigan and various trips with my family. Some of my favorite school subjects include math, history, and geography. When I lived in Tennessee (and now Utah for six months) I spend a lot of time out hiking and traveling to new places. I often travel back to Michigan for many of my holiday breaks but like to plan trips out west for other breaks.

Where I Am Today
I was placed in many settings throughout my undergraduate program that gave me exposure to various grade levels and student abilities. After completing the Teacher Preparation Program through Michigan State University, I decided to look out of the state of Michigan for a teaching position. Previously I was a seventh grade math teacher at STEM Preparatory Academy in Nashville, TN where I taught for a year and a half. I taught second grade, for three years, at West Creek Elementary School in Clarksville, TN. I am now in Columbus, OH working at United Preparatory Academy-State St. as a 4th grade science and social studies teacher. I seek positions where I challenged and have the opportunity to work with great coworkers and a great group of students.
