TE 802 Reflection & Inquiry in Teaching Practice I
Instructor: Jessica Meier
The focus of this course was to learn how to teach quality lessons in various academic areas through incorporating literacy. This course built upon prior knowledge learned in literacy courses taught in the undergraduate program. I learned how to incorporate many tools and resources learned through previous courses, and new experiences in the classroom for effective literacy instruction. I gained the knowledge to help students create literacy goals, how to connect curriculum to material students will be tested on, and use data and reflection to benefit my professional learning.

TE 803 Professional Role & Teaching Practice II
Instructor: Dr. Betty Okwako
Through integrated units of social studies, I gained the knowledge of social studies lessons and practices; integrated curriculum; professional and ethical responsibilities as a teacher; accommodation of special needs; lesson study; and reflective practices. I incorporated standards from the National Council for Social Studies (NCSS) into social studies units that focused on high student engagement and the use of technology. I created lessons that focused on economics, geography, and history.
TE 804 Reflection & Inquiry in Teaching Practice II
Instructor: Tim Bennett
This course challenged me in reflecting on lesson plans and implementation the science Grade Level Content Expectations (GLCEs). The course goals focused on implementing and planning effective science units, establishing an inclusive learning community, inquiring into my own science teaching, and fostering my professional growth. I had the opportunity to reflect on lessons and ways to implement science into everyday lessons was highly focused on. It was very beneficial in creating effective and engaging lessons.

TE 842 Elementary Reading Assessment Instruction
Instructor: Dr. Laura Tortelli
I acquired the knowledge of how to appropriately analyze data collected after completing various literacy assessments. I was able to use this data to determine appropriate interventions for the student who completed the literacy screeners. Prior to this course I had learned how to complete the assessments and read the data but did not have the knowledge of how to effectively use the data for interventions. I completed a book study that provided many different tools and resources for phonics and spelling practices.
ED 800 Concepts of Educational Inquiry
Instructor: Dr. Steven Weiland
Through various technological tools I learned about different types of inquiry in relation to educational practices. I was exposed to philosophical, psychological, biological, historical, biographical, and ethnographic forms of inquiry. This course challenged me to place myself in the position of other people and how education has affected their lives in various ways. I was given the opportunity to observe a patriarchal society and analyze how a strong female character took on a role as chief, amongst observing many other ethnicities and able people and their educational experiences.

EAD 850 Multicultural Education
Instructor: Dr. Riyad A. Shahjahan
Differences and diversity lead to positions of privilege, power, and oppression, even in the field of education. This course has taught me how to reflect on differences and diversity and how it affects student learning inside and outside of the classroom. Through literature, technology, and film I was able to observe how differences has affected education throughout history. This has shaped many of my views as an educator and I have become more aware of the needs of my students based upon their cultures and educational backgrounds.
TE 846 Accomodating Differences in Literacy Learners
Instructor: Dr. Dongbo Zhang
This course taught me how to focus on literacy instruction and incorporate various accommodations for students. I gained knowledge of how to accommodate according to cultural and linguistic differences, individual motivation differences, neuropsychological differences, instructional arrangements to accomodate learning differences, and core components of effective literacy learning. I conducted an assessment of two students and was able to determine an area of literacy intervention and compare their growth. This was very beneficial for my instruction and future literacy practices.

KIN 856 Physical Bases of Coaching
Instructor: Dr. Anthony Moreno
This course challenged me to apply mechanical and physiological attributes to the sport of swimming. I have a background as a competitive swimmer and as a coach for competitive swimming. This course helped me to apply my knowledge of swimming to a more detailed muscular level. Prior to this course I did not have an extensive background in anatomy which made this course challenging. Through many powerpoints and articles I was able to gain knowledge in how anatomy and muscular attributes affect swimming.
TE 845 Language Diversity and Literacy Instruction and Assessment
Instructor: Dr. Patricia A. Edwards
Dr. Edwards presented material which was very beneficial in understanding how students (and adults) feel as English Language Learners (ELL) in a predominantly English speaking school and community. I had the opportunity to read texts which aided in assessing the cognitive abilities of an ELL student and determining their prior academic knowledge in their native language. I was able to design a professional development for my colleagues which focused on the skill of teaching idioms to ELL students.

ED 870 Capstone Portfolio Course
Instructors: Dr. Matthew Koehler, Sarah Keenan-Lechel, Spencer Greenhalgh, and Brittany Dillman
Through the Captsone course I have been able to implement previous works I completed through out my Master of Arts in Education, in an online portfolio. This course has been very beneficial in reflecting on my past works and past goals and how I can move forward with all of the new strategies and tools I have gained. I have been able to interact, give feedback, and receive feedback from other students in the course to improve my professional portfolio and aid others in building theirs.
